If a php script Cron job is invoked using the "Run now" option in the webgui, the webgui freezes waiting for the initial PHP process to return. It appears the exec()'d PHP process is hanging for unknown reasons. Running the same commands from the command line (including actual cron job or invoking mwexec2(comaand) in a separate script to launch cron job script) works fine, so it appears to be something with lighttpd's fastcgi setup. See https://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/freenas/viewtopic.php?p=20791#p20791 for more information.

The PHP session is blocked if you run the command via WebGUI because it executes the cron job. This can not be solved easily.
