    Hi,
    reinstalling without backing up configuration is not an good idea. Nevertheless you've found a broken workflow. Readding an existing encrypted disk is not supported at the moment (via WebGUI).

    Do add the disk without deleting the existing data you have to modify the config.xml file. Use the 'Diagnostic/File Edit' WebGUI to modify configuration. To do so enter '/conf/config.xml' in the 'File path' field and press 'Load'.

    Add the following at the end of the file. Be careful, if you did a mistake, the configuration file isn't valid and you're unable to start your FreeNAS box again.

    <geli>
    <vdisk>
    <aalgo>none</aalgo>
    <ealgo>AES</ealgo>
    <fullname>/dev/ad1.eli</fullname>
    Encrypted disk
    <name>ad1</name>
    <size>xxxxxMB</size>
    </vdisk>
    </geli>
    </freenas> <----- this must be the last line in the file.

    Fill out the <size> field with the correct disk size. You can find it under <disks>:
    <disks>
    <disk>
    <name>ad1</name>
    <fullname>/dev/ad1</fullname>
    <harddiskstandby>0</harddiskstandby>
    <acoustic>0</acoustic>
    <apm>0</apm>
    <udma>auto</udma>
    <type>IDE</type>
    VMware Virtual IDE Hard Drive/00000001
    <size>5120MB</size>
    <fstype>ufsgpt</fstype>
    </disk>

    After all press the 'Save' button.

    The
    typo has been fixed, thanks.

    Greetings
    Volker

    Argh,
    OK, if the WebGUI is accessible, use 'Edit File' page and load the configuration again. Somewhere in the file there must be another <geli> section:

    <geli>
    xxxxx
    </geli>

    Simply remove that and save + reboot.

    If WebGUI is not accessible you have to reset the settings to default factory settings. This is as menu 4.

    Regards
    Volker
