Hello, I'd like to come back to the tracker handling question, which is still open for me. Let's forget now on introducing a new tracking tool, and try to concentrate on improving our usage of the SF one. Trying to verify certain bugs, I had to fight with the fact that some were already fixed by Dimitry in CVS, and I had no mean to filter them out, effectively or at least visually. I think, would we use "groups", we could greatly improve things: 1. items without group or with group "FreeMind 0.8.0" can be checked by me (or other helpers with sufficient rights), and closed if issue doesn't appear anymore in the latest beta, else group be changed to "FreeMind 0.9.0". Ray, are you able with your current rights to change the group of an item? If yes, you could help :-) 2. items with group "FreeMind 0.9.0" can be fixed by a developer, then moved into group "Fixed_In_CVS" (yet to be created). 3. testers check items with group "Fixed in CVS", and close if OK (after next release), else setup back to group "FreeMind 0.9.0". Could we this time have a quick and neat decision taking process? Thanks, Eric |

Hi Eric, I have started to tag the bugs solved in CVS by adding "(S:CVS)" to end of the title of the bug. That leaves the groups free for other purposes, and makes it obvious from the bug overview which bugs have been solved in CVS. All such bugs can also be found using SourceForge's keyword search, looking for "CVS" or "S:CVS"; I have tested this. Does it solve your problem? Hi all, coming back to the issue of how to see quickly those issues that have been solved in CVS, I have now written a general proposal of tagging issues, posted to http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Talk:Handling_trackers Tagging of issues in their title could provide a workaround for some of the limitations of SourceForges's bug tracking system. I am posting the proposal in this email too. Dan _____________________________________________________________________ Tagging of issues Issues - bug reports and feature requests - can be tagged in their title, by adding the tag surrounded by brackets to their title. For instance, bugs solved in CVS can be tagged with *(SCVS)*, and highly requested features can be tagged with *(HRF)*. The tags used by the FreeMind team can be documented here, resulting in having well-defined set of tags instead of confusion. - Pro: Tagging is flexible, unlike the use of categories and other attributes. - Con: Tagging uses up the title length, necessitating the shortening of the title in some cases. |

Hi, sorry, I'm in a hurry, but I wanted to be sure the conversation stays alive, so I've documented my counter-proposal based on groups in the below Wiki page. I also allowed myself to add a Con to your list, Dan (clearly stated as coming from me, of course). Hi Eric, thanks for replying in the wiki; that makes the discussion easier to organize. I have replied now too. I have allowed myself to structure your inlined reply into my original style, keeping the content. I am content with having a dedicated group, if its name will be consistent, as suggested in the wiki. http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Talk:Handling_trackers Regards, Dan |

Hi all, FYI, I have created a new group "FreeMind 0.9.0 - Fixed in CVS" Dan |

Hi, I think that the proposed work around is good enough, I shall use it and have already adjusted the category of the bugs I had solved before. Dimitry |

Hi Eric, please so fast with dumping old proposals ;). I have moved your proposal to talk page and restored my original proposal. http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Handling_trackers Dan |

Hello Eric, as I do not understand your reaction, I am leaving it without comment. Regards, Dan On 10/26/07, Eric Lavarde <fre...@zo...> wrote: > > Waiting for which event? Hi, we take a decision based on a specific wording, process and roles, and you translate it into your former proposal which was never approved, ignoring the roles defined in the original proposal. For example, you state "the issue should be assigned to the groups FreeMind 0.8.0 and set to Closed."; who will do this? Also, I don't understand the need for making a differentiation between 'stable' and 'unstable', it's just confusing. Furthermore, you allow yourself to correct my English, but your formatting is gruesome. Haya! Let's call this a decision (we've got the quorum of 50% of the developers + Dan and myself). I've documented this decision as clearly as I could under <http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Handling_trackers>. Thanks, Eric PS: Chris, feel free to reopen the discussion if you don't agree, but we need to go on in the mean time. Waiting for which event? You've said OK, Dimitry said OK, I (obviously) said OK, and Chris has stated that he's busy; without forgetting Ray who didn't disapprove, though he's obviously reading this forum. So what?
