Hi, I've started a search on our CVS and found one more license issue about freemind/main/CommonsCodecBase64.java, I've documented it under http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Licensing#Offending_files Chris, concerning the Base64 thing, the easiest would be to add the commons-codec library and remove the offending source file (and of course, update accordingly the files referring to it). What do you think? Attached, you'll find my request to the original author of the files remaining with issues. If it doesn't succeeed, we'll have to go the hard way and rewrite the files starting from the author's files under MIT license. Cheers, Eric -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Asking for change of licenses for FreeMind files Date: Sat, 22 Mar 2008 18:18:47 +0100 From: Eric Lavarde <fre...@zo...> Organization: FreeMind Project To: min...@cc... Hello Miika, we've noticed recently that we carry certain files with licenses incompatible with the overall GPLv2 of FreeMind [1]. Very similar versions of the files currently in our CVS can be found on your mmTree site with MIT license, but I would have the merge back the changes, so I'd like to ask you to (re-)place the work given to FreeMind under MIT, GPLv2 or any other license compatible with GPLv2. Simple answer to this email with your OK will do the trick. Thanks a lot in advance for your support and happy Easter, Eric [1] http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Licensing#Offending_files -- Gewalt ist die letzte Zuflucht der Inkompetenz. Hi Eric, apache commons... hmm, Apache License, Version 2.0 <http://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0> This is a free software license, compatible with version 3 of the GPL. Please note that this license is not compatible with GPL version 2, because it has some requirements that are not in the older version. These include certain patent termination and indemnification provisions. http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/license-list.html Not better, I think. I was not aware, that the "AS IS" license prohibits use inside our program, as everybody is able to use it even it its commercial applicaitons, IMHO. But, above link says this, too. Do you have another idea? Hi Eric, CommonsCodeBase64 is gone. I replaced it by a file from GNU Classpath that is under GPL V2+. Hello Chris, I see that the problem with Base64 is now solved. Just for your interest: there is also a public domain library for Base64: http://iharder.sourceforge.net/current/java/base64/ I am using this library to my satisfaction. Hi Dan, thanks. In case of trouble with the current solution, I'll chose this one. Chris PS: Happy Easter Dan Polansky schrieb: > Hello Chris, > > I see that the problem with Base64 is now solved.
