Let the zoom level of each mind map be stored in the mind map file. When a file is opened by the user, let the initial zoom level of the mind map be the one stored in the mind map from last editing.

Model applications: OpenOffice, MS Office.

Discussion

  • Hi,

FreeMind 1.0.0 Alpha2 implements this feature (and complete tab restore, too).
Please have a test (remember, an alpha version is not for productive use!).

  • Storing of zoom level in the mind map does not seem to be implemented in FM 1.0.0 alpha 2. I proceed as follows:
    1. Create a new mind map
    2. Set the zoom level to 125%
    3. Save the mind map
    4. Close the mind map
    5. Open the mind map again (without closing FreeMind)
    6. Observation: the zoom level is not 125% but rather 100%

  • Hi Dan,

a first observation: IMHO, the zoom level is not a parameter of the mindmap, because on different computers, the zoom level must be different as the screen size is different. So the zoom level is stored in the freemind's parameters of the user.
Steps to reproduce the zoom as wished here are for me:
    * create new map, set zoom level, store map, quit freemind, start freemind again: the same zoom level is selected.

  • Hello Chris, the feature request says that the zoom level should be stored in the mind map. That is the way OpenOffice and MS Office deal with zoom level of documents, including text documents and spreadsheets; please verify this as you see fit--I hope I have not overlooked something. You may want to reject to implement this feauture, and implement another similar feature instead, such as "Remembering zoom level from one session to another". Storing zoom level in the mind map has the consequence that if one person creates a mind map with a zoom level and sends the mind map to another person, the other person opens the mind map with the zoom level stored by the other user.

I am not sure which of the ways of remembering zoom level is better. I have described what OOo and MSO do about zoom level. Remembering zoom level per document between sessions only for the current user without storing the zoom level in the document has some charm, I admit, yet it seems innovative and possibly unexpected by some users. But some things should better be innovative at the expense of tradition or precedent; that hard task is to decide which ones.

As regards this feature request, it can be closed as implemented only if what it describes has actually been implemented. If you maintain that you do not want to store zoom level in the mind map, I can create another feature request in which I describe the desired behavior implemented in 1.0.0 alpha 2. Then we can close this feature request as "reject to implement; see also the other feature request" or the like. --Dan

Default zoom option will be fantastic. Unfortunately I am not a programmer and will have to await your magic.

  • Hi,

already implemented in 1.0.0. Zoom is stored in local properties and not inside the map, as the zoom level depends on the displaying device.
