Freemind doesn't startup

  • The path in Windows XP is set in the following screen
    Control panel --> System --> Tab: Advanced --> Button: Environment variables.

    I followed the instructions in the link to set up both my JAVA_HOME and PATH variables.

    It didn't work for me unless I specified the absolute path to my JRE bin.

    JAVA_HOME -> C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_05
    PATH -> C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_05\bin

    I used to be able to use Freemind, and now suddenly I can't. I then set the absolute path to my java bin to be in my %path% but that didn't help. I have the latest version of Java, though I haven't tried a reinstall. Is there a list somewhere of troubleshooting procedures?

  • I have the same problem and changing the environmental variables doesn't work!!!
    I double click the java file.

  • I get:

    common/mkfreemind> ./freemind.sh

    Warning: Cannot convert string "-b&h-lucida-medium-r-normal-sans-*-140-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct

    Looking for user properties:

    User properties found.
    Default (System) Look & Feel: javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel
    ./freemind.sh: line 8: 18058 Killed                  java -jar   ${full}/lib/freemind.jar $@

    I do have $JAVA_HOME set and java is in my $PATH:

    mkfreemind/lib> which java

    echo $JAVA_HOME
    mkfreemind/lib> echo $JAVA_HOME

    Am I missing some arguments (the $@)?
    Or some graphics component? (the javax.swing... )?

      no obvious solution at first glance, but some ideas where to look:
      - font problem? perhaps but no idea how to solve it?
      - Look & Feel? what do you have as 'lookandfeel' parameter in ~/freemind/user.properties? Uncomment and try other values (default, motif, nothing).
      - which Version of Linux do you have?
      - 18058 is a process ID: just after FreeMind has crashed, call 'ps -efH | less' and search for the ID, perhaps it gives a hint. Try 'echo $$' in the same console to compare.

      You are welcome to send the result of the above here, we probably can come further.

      Cheers, Eric
