I thought that you meant to zero out all window-based (in the GLUT sense) callbacks, or otherwise disable them, for offscreen displays. Since GLUT binds Joystick events on a per-window basis, I thought that you favored killing joysticks in that case. So, do you want to split the window-based callbacks into two sets? One that works for onscreen windows, and one that works for any display type? My only immediate use for this is really within bounds of your "rendering area" proposal.
