Hi, Because this is of such grave importance to the Free Film Project, I'm bringing the Slashdot article on Hollywood's anti-Open Source attitude to the attention of everyone involved in the FFP. Essentially, the companies involved in the DeCSS affair have branded -ALL- Opn Source efforts as piracy, and an attempt to steal copyright material. Whilst this is not a "personal" attack on the FFP (or even DeCSS), it's still a meanacing stance. I therefore want to do a straw-poll on the lists, on whether or not to make any kind of response and what sort of response that should be. The four options I would like to propose are as follows, in no specific order: 1) Produce the best set of movies we can, and exploit the phobia where possible to get more people involved. 2) Don't react, don't respond, until or unless there is action taken to hinder or stop work on the Free Film Project. 3) As a project, write a formal letter to (gently) correct the critisism, and try to sell them the code we already have and/or has been promised. 4) Treat this like any other Slashdot crisis and post up a bunch of "First Post"'s. --== Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ ==-- Before you buy. |
