FreeDOS-32 is a MultiBoot, modular, free operating system under development for i386, designed to be "a 32-bit DOS". The 0.0.5 alpha release is available for download, featuring improved support for applications, and a new ATA/ATAPI driver for native disk access (no more need for BIOS). The file system part has been rearranged for better modularity, and it is now using a new Unicode support library and NLS manager. Please report any problem found in this release, and please check if the problem was present in 0.0.4 too. In the next release we plan to include the following features currently under development: an ATAPI CD-ROM driver, an ISO 9660 file system driver (for CD-ROMs), an improved brand new FAT driver, a LEAN file system driver, and better support for applications.
FreeDOS-32 0.0.4 is available for download. FreeDOS-32 is a MultiBoot, modular, free operating system under development for i386, designed to be "a 32-bit DOS". Besides the bug fixes, this release lets you use a command.com replacement as well as Bash, and run simple programs such as a text editor. An initial basic Win32 support is also provided.
In the context of FreeDOS-32, an operating system under development to extend the DOS concepts to work in a native 32-bit environment, a new free file system has been developed.
It is LEAN (Lean yet Effective Allocation and Naming), a free, simple, portable personal file system that aims to become an alternative to the proprietary FAT file system for embedded tasks.
A first implementation of a LEAN FS driver, under GNU GPL, is available in the "leanfs" module of our CVS repository.
FreeDOS 32 alpha release 0.0.2 can be downloaded through the SourceForge.net File Release System. FreeDOS 32 is an operating system under development which aims to extend the DOS concepts to work in a 32 bit environment natively. Some bugs related to file system and disk access have been fixed. Both binary (floppy image) and source distributions available, based on the latest CVS.
The first release of FreeDOS 32 is finally available through the SourceForge.net download area. FreeDOS 32 is an operating system under development which aims to extend the DOS concepts to work in a 32 bit environment natively. The release is named 0.0.1 (unstable), and includes a floppy image for testing (with GNU GRUB, FD32 kernel and drivers, and a COMMAND.COM replacement) and a package for sources, based on the latest CVS.
Kernel, drivers and test programs are finally all stored in our CVS repository, where you can find the latest development source code. The file system is fully integrated in the FD32 scenario and seems to work properly.
