I hate to bring back one of the disputes as old as dirt (in the Free Col default graphic set) but I just tried a network game yesterday and trying to build a colony on Apache land (b) I received a warning similar to the one you get when you put a colonist onto a plot owned by Natives.

This isn't old Col behavior, it's C4C behavior. But to be frank, I'm not sure whether or not this action would cause any alarm in the native population in the original game - I can only assum it would nott, since there was no warning, and you usually ended up surrounded with nat. territories anyway. If it does cause alarm, then this is just a useful feature and a fix of original Col's glitch. But then again - I'm not sure if you made this change on purpose... .

This is currently rather unbalanced (#2961751) and I intend to implement a game option to allow for a variety of behaviour, suitable for different difficulty levels. I understand the Col1 behaviour was simply to allow you to settle anywhere, and this will be supported, even if I agree that it is probably a glitch.

Yep, it seems to me, they did this for the sake of simplicity. It would seem, that sometimes for instance you can build a colony on a tile within a native city radius (like Aztec or Inca) without knowing the tribe exist. And how can they protest if you never met? Now if the game allowed you to build the colony, and THEN you meet the ex-owners, what should they do - right off the bat ask you for reimbursement? Or maybe the contact ahould be established whenever you ecroach their land...?!

There is now a game option covering this behaviour, one of the settings is to always allow building on native soil as in Col1. The only remaining problem is that this option is difficulty-sensitive, and the setting is not the default in the classic ruleset. This is a Col1-incompatibility, reclassifying as such.

The difficulty sensitivity has been forcefully fixed. Closing.
