Good evening. I have been attempting to install the freecol 10.5 but am having trouble and am now terribly confused.

Whats this ant business and why doesn't it work?

I double click on the freecol.app and it starts to load (lauches on the dock) and then closes down straight away

I am very good at following instructions if someone is able to give me a step by step…I have played other versions and love this game!

Any help would be appreciated

A lot of users have been reporting troubles on macs lately.  The FreeCol developers hands are rather tied here as 1) there are very few of us, 2) I think only one developer has a mac, and he has been preoccupied with RL lately, 3) we have not changed anything specific to macs -- whatever the problem is, it is either Apple's doing or a problem specific to the user's machine.

What is needed here is for a clueful mac user to step up and work out why there are so many problems lately, and let us all know.

I see posts about home folders (where is that) and permissions (what should I change) and java (well things just seem fine and the commands that they say to run just don't run) and ant (I now have folders everywhere but don't know what to do with them), but it really doesn't make much sense to me. I try to run the things that are suggested but am missing something and just don't get the results that others seem to be getting :(

mpope, a solution was found (see the other mac thread).  It had nothing to do with Apple or users' machines.  I didn't see a bug report on this when I browsed, so I filed one myself, but since this is the first time I've done this, I hope I worded the problem correctly. 

Thanks for the bug report and work-around.  If anyone has more information please add it to BR#3520384.  My other comments stand however.  No one knows *why* the workaround works, or why the problem is occurring at all, and especially frustratingly for the purposes of FreeCol development-- what changed to cause this problem?
