Recent changes to subproject functionality are reassuring (more non-functional stuff hidden etc.), but I still fail to understand few things:

  • do subprojects have some sort of project web assigned to them? (i tried connecting with "fakenames,webspace.fakenames.u@shell.sourceforge.net", but it does not seem to work, and there is no folder for subproject when connected in usual way)
  • if not, why are there tools like outgoing e-mail and SQL database in subproject settings?
  • if those are not supposed to work either, why not just remove subproject tool? In conjunction with [allura:tickets:#2716] lack of hosting support renders current subproject implementation pretty much useless.

We don't support using project web for subprojects.

Good point, I've created a ticket to disable tools that are unsupported for subprojects: [allura:tickets:#5391]

    • if those are not supposed to work either, why not just remove subproject tool? In conjunction with [allura:tickets:#2716] lack of hosting support renders current subproject implementation pretty much useless.

The issue cited in that ticket, we do intend to fix (hence the ticket). And just because subprojects don't support project web doesn't mean there aren't a lot of other use cases for them. All the standard allura tools work just fine with subprojects (eg., tickets, discussion, code repos, etc.)

That said, since the webspace is specifically what you created that particular subproject for, I've put that subproject into the removal queue.

  • Was it really placed into removal queue? I can still see it.
