If you're looking for something to work on, you want to be sure that projects know that you're the one for the job. Here's some tips for writing your post, so that you'll get matched up with the project that's right for you.

1) Tell us what programming languages you're proficient with. Java? Perl? Lisp? Tell us if you're a guru, or if you're hoping to find a project to help you learn that language.

2) Tell us what you've done before. If you can, post a link to other projects that you've worked on, so that we can have a look at your code.

3) Tell us about your hobbies. Open Source projects span a huge range of topics, from DNA analysis to My Little Pony. Telling us what you like to do in your spare time is going to be a great indicator of which projects might be a good fit for you.
