I'm back from Tarawa, Kiribati...
I have just upgraded my machine to Mandrake 7.1, I have less problems in
compilation now, and some new errors. I will have to check that...
It was SOPAC annual session (cf http://www.sopac.org) which is the organisation
for who I work with. I presented FMaps there and received support from
member countries. It means now I can spend some of my work time on the
project and have more time for my social life :-). It means also that I
should be able to draw resources into the project. Unfortunately I'm
leaving by the end of the week for Tuvalu for 2 weeks, so I cannot move
fmaps as fast as I would like...
However some new people have indicated they would like to particiapte
(Kendal Sears, Fillipo,A. CArvalho). I think most of them have
subscribed to this list (cf fmaps.sourceforge.net) if not please do it,
then indicate in the list what you would like to do with your
sourceforge login, and off you go... I have tried to answer to this
people individually but, it was difficult to access my e-mail from
Kiribati. So if you haven't received an e-mail previously do not
I may also have the possibility of bringing a French student for a 6
month training period (end of studies training period) where he/she will
work on fmaps. I'm sorry about the nationality but the French embassy
may be funding... If you have some other donors, then the door is open..
Bernard has been working on the zoom, paning capabilities of the map, so
it should become more workable soon.
It seems also that Frank Wanderman would like to develop a real DB
storage facility. I'm all for it as it is what fmaps is trying to
Well, that's all in short. I'm going to get the latest update from CVS
and see from there...
