I know I can add things like gkrellm -w & to my .xinitrc file and gkrellm will loads to the bottom right hand corner of the desktop. I am wanting aterm to load. I want aterm to load a sertain way though. I want it to load this way if possible but if not I have another way I would like it to load. I have a custom .tcshrc file that has a custom prompt that I use that looks like this set prompt=" %B%{\033[33m%}`whoami`%{\033[38m%}@%{\033[33m%}`hostname -s` %{\033[36m%}%B[%T]%b%{\033[37m%} \n[%/] \n===>" I want to use this when I load aterm. I also use aterm with these options -fg wheat -tr -trsb --color1 orange --color4 green -sh 70 -e tcsh. I also want to use those options. Something I don't have is this. When I load aterm I want it to have "no" border and "no" titlebar. With all these options I have told you I have, want, and want to use I also want aterm to load at the top left hand corner of the desktop. I am using FreeBSD 4.6.2 with Fluxbox 0.1.12 Hope I was clear enough with my question. |

I am using FreeBSD 4.6.2 with Fluxbox 0.1.12 ---end quoted text--- Nothing prevents you from putting whatever aterm command, with whatever options you want, in your .xinitrc. You may want to place it after the fluxbox command. I would check out bblaunch to see if the decoration adjustments can happen there. If bblaunch can't make it a "naked" window, you can check out the "remember settings" patch, or something like that. It's listed on the fluxbox home page. That way you might be able to convince fluxbox to remember to decorate the aterm instance a particular way. You should probably specify a different window class, using the appropriate aterm option, so that fluxbox can discriminate between this particular aterm and other normal ones. I assume you're trying to tail some logs, or run a console monitor? Hope that helps, Steve -- \_O< \_O< \_O< ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Steve Cooper Redmond, WA |

It gives you a naked aterm, xosview, whateveryouwant which will be omnipresent on all workspaces. Seems to be perfect for watching logs in the background without additional entries in the window list. You can also run gkrellm on all workspaces without filling out the slit. You can find it on http://www.jmos.net/xnodecor/ HTH Cheers, Torsten |

I just want a terminal with my settings to be "stuck" or whatever in the top left hand corner with no border and no title bar. With my other terminal settings too of course. ---end quoted text--- FWIW - Here's my suggestions: - Build and install Fluxbox from source after applying the Remember Settings patch. This gives you the capability of automatically decorating your terminal window however you want. It will save your settings. - When starting aterm use the -geometry option to set size and position. - Also use the -name option to choose a unique name for this particular terminal instance. Doing this will allow these settings for window decoration to only apply to this instance. - Add an line in .xinitrc, or whatever your X session startup script is. Put the full aterm command with options on this line. E.g.: aterm -geometry 50x20+0+0 -name MyAterm (please double check my syntax) - Start X. Hopefully your terminal is running, and at least placed and sized correctly by the command in .xinitrc. - Right-click on the title bar. Choose appropriate options to make the window appear how you like. - Right-click again to invoke Remember Settings. The instance you start from .xinitrc should now always appear the way you want when X starts up. That's the best I can come up with. Note that I haven't tested it. And I haven't played with the Remember Settings patch myself. Good luck, Steve -- \_O< \_O< \_O< ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Steve Cooper Redmond, WA |

Try this patch from Xavier Brouckaert, (the download is a patched version of flux 0.1.12), it adds a menu item to the right click menu on any window, allowing you to save a window's state such as position, size, border decoration etc. http://mal.sh/fluxbox-0.1.12-remember.tar.bz2 You need to do: aclocal && automake && autoconf before running configure/make Hope it helps, MAL Bryan Cassidy wrote: > I know I can add things like gkrellm -w & to my .xinitrc file and > gkrellm will loads to the bottom right hand corner of the desktop. Read, with regard to fonts: 1) The Official Red Hat Linux Reference Guide, Chapter 6: The X Window System The section on Fonts. 2) http://www.halley.cc/ed/linux/howto/fonts.html where a clear explanation is given how to install fonts under RedHat-8.0. Under RH-8.0 it is now wise to make a distinction between 'classical XFree86 fonts' and 'freetype, (postscript and TT), fonts'. Red Hat has made a default systemwide switch to unicode (UTF-8 locales) and has started using the Xft2/Fontconfig library which makes installing and the administration of freetype fonts very easy (essentially you just drop them in for example ~/.fonts). Other distributions still use Xft (=Xft1) and then you have messy configurations with XftConfig. If you want to try it out under your own distro download fcpackage.2_0.tar.gz and install it. As most things in RH now support UTF-8 you cannot use for example Aterm or Eterm under (default) RH-8.0 anymore (for example man pages are not displayed correctly, and worse). Aterm and Eterm do not support UTF-8. Because you have 'client-side fonts' with Xft2/Fontconfig and the easy font installation and administration it would be nice if fluxbox also supported UTF-8 and Xft2. Alexander |

Yes, the util tree is currently broken. The main src tree should still build though, and give you the fluxbox binary (cd src && make) If we're going to release a devel version soon, I expect this will be fixed for it... *prods Henrik* ;-) Cheers, - Simon On Sun, 16 Feb 2003, joe hill wrote: > as is my habit of replying to my own posts, it seems I am missing the > file "Timer.hh", but a locate Timer.hh gave me this: > > /home/joehill/downloads/fluxbox-0.1.12/src/Timer.hh > /home/joehill/downloads/dockapps/bbmail-0.8.2/Timer.hh > /home/joehill/downloads/fluxbox-0.1.14/src/Timer.hh > /home/joehill/fluxbox/src/Timer.hh > > but it is not in the directory where it is apparently needed. i copied > it over, but fluxbox compile central control did NOT like that. > > > > > On Sun, 2003-02-16 at 02:25, joe hill wrote: > > I am trying to compile Fluxbox from CVS, and am running into a > > perplexing error: > > > > > > > > make[3]: Entering directory `/home/joehill/cvs/fluxbox/util' > > make[3]: *** No rule to make target `../src/Timer.hh', needed by > > `bsetroot.o'. If you are using the latest devel versions, or download fbsetbg ddirectly, you could also check out: http://www.xs4all.nl/~hanb/software/fluxbox/fbsetbg.html Cheers, - Simon |

I have a question I got the development release of fluxbox 0.9.9 it compiled ok. I had to .xsessions file and the .fluxbox file ok. But redhat the desktop switching program would not let fluxbox work it say it cannot be upgraded and it see if it is installed correctly which it works good with gnome kde and xfce. Ok so can fluxbox be ran from the graphical boot. I tried it from nongraphical and fluxbox comes up when I started it. Which may I added it is pretty darn cool but I gotta work on getting use to it.
