Hi Folks, As of today, we have a new computer in our lab that is dedicated to running FlightGear only. The Machine, an intel Quad Core, with 4 GiGs of RAM, and a one Terabyte drive, is equipped with two NVIDIA 9800GT video cards, running three Flatscreen Monitors. The intention of the setup is to investigate human performance / mental workload in a more realistic setting. Today, as part of the opening of the academic year, we were asked to organize a booth, presenting something interesting from our department. Since we basically didn't have a clue, what else to present, we decided to put the new machine at a table, hook up the monitors, and give it a go. I had gotten most of the essentials working the day before, but we hadn't done a full systems test yet. Well, we just hooked up the monitorsm yoke, pedals, etc, and lo and behold, It all worked like a dream. Because our corner of the building was named Mont Blanc, for the occasion, we decided to start FlightGear from Geneva and head toward the real mont blanc. Terrasync worked like a dream, and we had all the required scenery within a minute, loading additional ones as we went. . Fortunately, I knew a few tricks from my previous presentations at FSWeekend, such as landing the F14 on the Nimitz, and what the really cool aircraft were. Before I realized, our presentation was the most talked about event of the afternoon. :-) Cheers, Durk |
