[Flex-help] Getting Started

Although I've studied a lot of programming lanugages, I'm 1 week-new in Compilers, so, After I downloaded the Flex, I was just wondering, how do I start? I mean, here do I type my codes?, in a notepad?, and then how do I compile it or somewhat?, I'm very very new on Compilers, so this might be a very odd question
