On Fedora if you run NetworkManager it won't start on boot. You have to log into gnome and open firestarter each boot or log into gnome session. However removing from run level 5 NetworkManager and using plain Network it will be running from boot, even if you don't log in to gnome. I can only assume your OS being cutting edge like Fedora 10 suffers from it also.
