I have very much enjoyed Fire 1.0. Thanks to all the developers for the most excellent work! One aspect of the prev version that I miss is the fact that when speaking Fire said "Message from XXX" and now it says "You have received a message from XXX" which is a bit verbose. I would greatly appreciate an option to be able to control what it says, something like a text box where I can enter Speak [ From $NAME ] And set the speech to whatever I would like. An option to do the speech only for background windows would be nice too and still be able to have the "new message" sound ring if the window is frontmost. The "Mute the front chat window" checkbox could be both on the Sound Level (application) tab and the Speech tab of the Sound preference pane so you could have "Mute Sounds in Front Chat Window" separate from "Mute Speech in Front Chat Window" This would be especially handy because then I can tell who is sending me a message if the window is in the back, and I can still tell that the person I was last chatting with sent me a message (in a less intrusive way) if the window is in the front. As it is, the flashing window notification works well enough but I don't use the speak notification anymore. It sure was nice being able to tell who was sending me a message without looking at my computer or without even being able to see any of the FIRE windows. Blessings to you all, Mike |

I just got my laptop back from repair, and installed Fire 1.0.1. I have since been told by my MSN buddies that my MSN identification is showing. In the Profiles preference panel I have checked the option that allows me to put whatever name I want. But the name I put in the text box isn't appearign to my buddies, whereas with the previous stable version it was. What can I do to fix this? Anestis. -- Zeta: Yes it's chocolate. In order to set your MSN friendly name (or display name), you need to edit the account in the Accounts window while you are online and set it there. That other setting is purely for local display. -Jason On Jul 14, 2004, at 6:03 PM, Alan Humpherys wrote: > Does this problem still happen with Fire 1.0.3? > > Alan > ------ > Alan Humpherys > Fire Development Team > http://fire.sf.net > > On May 15, 2004, at 5:15 AM, Anestis wrote: > >> I just got my laptop back from repair, and installed Fire 1.0.1. >> >> I have since been told by my MSN buddies that my MSN identification >> is showing.
