Hi, will Fire have audio or even video facility soon?
I am finding ichat is problematic, it needs so much bandwidth and
sometimes or broadband isn't enough....
Also alot of my friends/family have microsoft messenger and the mac
version will not allow audio...
Will you be adding skype to your list?

Thanks for your feedback! I am glad you are using Fire.
Here are a few thoughts, unfortunately, the tasks you ask are hard ones!
The effort to add audio/video capability to Fire is a large one! So
far I have invested about 200 hours of effort just reverse-
engineering the protocols used to start and stop an iChat audio and
video session. What remains is hundreds of hours of work creating
the audio and video input software, as well as developing reasonable
noise cancelation software so that you don't get feedback of the
speaker feeding back into the microphone.
It's just a matter of finding the free time to do all of that, when I
have to work for a living :)
Then after iChat, I will handle AIM (which is different), then Yahoo
Messenger, and finally MSN.. However, MSN uses codecs (which encode
and decode the voice conversation) that are patented and only
available on the windows platform (that is why their mac version
doesn't support it either. ) My guess is that voice on MSN may be
something that we never are able to do.
Last of all, Skype is something that might be added in the future,
but it is low on the priority list... It uses up extremely large
amounts of your bandwith, even when you are not involved in a
conversation. Since they don't have a centralized server to maintain
the list of users, they use a bit of everyone's computer to maintain
the list of who is online and how to reach them. As such, it is not
a good protocol for everyday use and wastes immense amounts of the
internet's bandwidth, as well as stealing processing power from all
of its users. (I guess I am showing my bias against that poorly
