Hi all. As the experiences from the last week have shown, it is a bit tricky updating things in the stable tree, particularly with regard to getting all of the dependencies right. I think it's important that we make the 0.4 release quite soon. Here's my suggested strategy for doing this: 1) announce a deadline for moving things to stable, or other things to be included in 0.4. (Reasonable dates might be April 1, April 5, or April 8.) 2) tag everything in CVS on that date as belonging to 0.4. 3) spend a week or whatever it takes building the binary distribution. This will uncover some problems with the stable tree, and they can be fixed under the 0.4 tag. 4) once we have verified that everything works, make the actual release. There are several reasons for wanting to do this, but perhaps the biggest one is that xfree86-4.2 is now in stable, and it would be good to have a fink release to coincide with that. -- Dave |
