It could just be plain text files installed in /sw/share/docs/fink that contain FAQs and HOWTOS. As questions come up frequently, a maintainer could add FAQs to the package, and during a selfupdate everybody will get the revisions, if it is a required package, or have the option to update it if it is an optional one. -- Alexander K. hi, cvs use other ports, not the proxys and is mostly blocked by the=20 firewall. martin costable wrote a solution, that works for me fine (thanx to him) = : The following works: 1. Download the fink-cvsroot.tar.gz and untar it somewhere, let's say in=20= /fink-c vsroot. 2. You get a directory /fink-cvsroot/fink with subdirectories CVSROOT, base-files, fink, packages, web and so on. You can then use /fink-cvsroot/fink/ like the cvs repository at sourceforge to check out modules base-files, fink, and packages: In some new directory, let's say /sw/fink-cvs, you say cvs -d /fink-cvsroot/fink co base-files fink packages 3. Then (inside /sw/fink-cvs/), you go into each of the 3 directories base-files, fink, and packages and say sudo ./inject.pl This will update your fink distribution in /sw/fink. 4. If you do this the next time, instead of 2. it suffices to go into each of the 3 directories mentioned and say "cvs update". It may even be possible to educate 'fink selfupdate' to use /fink-cvsroot/fink/ instead of the sourceforge repository, but I am not sure if this is easy. Am Dienstag den, 12. Hi list, I use syntax highlighting with vim-nox and it works great despite the fact that the text isn't colored but bolded and underlined, making it quite unreadable :) It does it both in local and remote. Since ls --color gives me colors in both local and remote, i think it isn't a terminal issue. Thanx. -- Bertrand |

I misread `pwd' as something having to do with the Present Working Directory (too much shell programming of late, I guess...), instead of the PassWorD file. Of course Python has a `pwd' module. Duh. :-/ I have fink's python 2.2-8 on my system, and it has the pwd module. But I manually removed python-nox and then installed python once I got X up and running. Two or three patch updates since then have come off without a hitch. Well I've learned two things since I wrote that note. The first is that in Python you can type help('modules') and get a list of installed modules. The Second is that there are two versions of Python, python and python-nox. The latter has the pwd module the former does not. Actually, it is somewhat weird -- hopefully the weirdness is simpy caused my desire to live in the fast lane of CVS usage. But when I typed "fink install python-nox" it started running the install and when I finally came back I no longer had python installed. I would have throught I should have got a message saying python-nox conflicts with python. np I was wondering where that file came from...it shouldn't anymore it's because I was compiling it with profiling before...I disabled profilling in this build...let me know if it still happens. Yay I love lftp even if it took me 1 month for the first port :P It was worth it tab completion should be standard in all ftp programs :P mic...@po... writes: >right, in unstable, sorry about that... > >also if you could check another issue pls: lftp as of version 2.4.8 >writes a file named 'gmon.out' to every working directory it was run >from. right, in unstable, sorry about that... also if you could check another issue pls: lftp as of version 2.4.8 writes a file named 'gmon.out' to every working directory it was run from. I have 10 users that use the program and this file appears all over the server hierarchy (because they envoke lftp being in different places). I'm using sudo find / -name gmon.out -exec rm {} \; often to get rid of the junk. quite annoying... Other than that lftp-2.4.8 is cool! thank you for your work! That functionality usually looks like this: import os currentdirectory = os.getcwd( ) I have *no* experience installing mailman, though. I'm still a little fuzzy on what it means, but the solution is right there for you -- in cargo cult style [1], I did what it said and it worked: > /usr/X11R6/lib/libXxf86misc.a is out of date; rerun ranlib(1) (can't > load from it) There's your hint: re-run ranli (see page one of the manual for details): % ranlib /usr/X11R6/lib/libXxf86misc.a This may need to be done as root, I forget: % sudo ranlib /usr/X11R6/lib/libXxf86misc.a I can't honestly say that I'm 100% clear what this does, aside from enable shared libraries to be used by higher level programs, but in my case all I had to do was execute that command and then re-try the Fink installation, and everything went off without a hitch. And while it's possible to build it on OS X somehow, it isn't fun to package it <shudder>. I last worked on the 2.0 package on January 1st, and then just gave up on it (not because it's impossible or anything, just beacause I figured I have other more important things to do than to spend hours rewriting theirs build system to get this work). Sometimes there is a questionmark at >the beginning of a line - does that mean that a package >(description) has been removed? U - package was updated in CVS. This does *NOT* mean that it was updated on your system, only that the description was updated/is new R - package *description* was removed. again, this doesn't mean the package was removed (in the sense of "fink remove") ? - this file is not known by CVS. Happens a lot for package developers, and also happens if you manually copy a package say from unstable to stable or to local M - the package was modified locally, i.e. you (or somebody else with access to your system) modified the .info file All these messages are generated by the CVS tool. They only tell you about the .info files, and not about the packages status. If you want to learn about ths status of installed packages (and whether it might be possible to updat them), use the "fink list" command. Packages that are installed, but could be updated to a newer version are marked with "(i)", while up-to-date installed packages have an "i". I installed Python from CVS, which installed Python 2.2 correctly as far as i can tell. I decided to try to install Mailman. There is no fink package so I went to build from sources. I was fine until I got to the ./configure script which attempt so generate a python script, inline and execute it. The script tries to import two modules string and pwd. I extracted the script to see why it failed. It failed because there is no pwd module. Do I need to download it separately? do I need an older version of Python? -- Josh Kuperman jo...@ss... |
