#43 Video Editor?

I have a hard time looking at software these days that claim to be video editing software programs and yet these programs can't open an AVI? Especially the H264 avi's that all these new Digi cams are producing so in order to edit I still have to monkey around with MicroCrash software just to prepair it for CinePaint?
Same problem with DynaBolic Multi Media cd I tried, seems none of these can deal with the ever so overpopulated needs of us AVI users. The hardware in cameras give us no choice but to deal with avi's so I can't imagine not being able to open them in anything claimed to be an Video editor, I would love to trash MS all together and use Nix for vid editing but if I can't waltz into Walmart , buy a Video cam, dump the avi's into any of the So called video editors out here and have no trouble opening these files how can this even get off the ground? Any plans on fixing this in the future? From the cam to the nix box please with no MicroCrash Bill "D"-G[r]ates software and their band of Lawless hordes.
