The Saffire PRO 40 does in fact work with ffado, and would probably work automatically with no coding or compiling with AVLinux (http://www.bandshed.net/AVLinux.html), since the PRO 24 does. I can only speak for the PRO 24 which I own, but the PRO 40/24 are similar except for number of channels. You should be able to run it just booting the AVLinux DVD if you want to test it.
