Hi Lynette

(Not sure what happened with the previous email).

If you are using Fez with Solr then you can use the following (Otherwise if you are using MyISAM Mysql only then its fulltext searching, if its innodb only its LIKE based searching):

These links might help you learn how to use Fez expert searching - which makes finding things (in the published area) much easier:

http://wiki.apache.org/solr/SolrQuerySyntax

http://lucene.apache.org/java/docs/queryparsersyntax.html

So you can do quite complex queries if you use this.

Fields you can use in Fez expert search are:

title,author,subject,description,file_attachment_name,file_attachment_content,ismemberof,status,object_type,display_type,keywords,notes,date,xsd_display_option,file_downloads,created_date,updated_date,research_program,depositor,isderivationof,assigned_user_id,assigned_group_id,isdatacomponentof,isannotationof,author_id,alternative_title,pid,publisher,contributor,contributor_id,refereed,series,journal_name,newspaper,conference_name,book_title,identifier,edition,place_of_publication,start_page,end_page,chapter_number,issue_number,volume_number,conference_dates,conference_location,patent_number,country_of_issue,date_available,language,phonetic_title,language_of_title,translated_title,phonetic_journal_name,translated_journal_name,phonetic_book_title,translated_book_title,phonetic_newspaper,translated_newspaper,phonetic_conference_name,translated_conference_name,issn,isbn,isi_loc,prn,output_availability,na_explanation,sensitivity_explanation,org_unit_name,org_name,report_number,sequence,genre,genre_type,formatted_title,formatted_abstract,depositor_affiliation,proceedings_title,total_chapters,total_pages,collection_year,parent_publication,convener,link,link_description,location,building_materials,architectural_features,interior_features,surrounding_features,condition,style,period,category,subcategory,structural_systems,rights,views,scopus_id

FYI… I’ve been updating our FAQ and noticed that the question ‘Can you use truncation?’ didn’t have an answer on our site.  I checked http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/help.php?topic=main#trunc and it also doesn’t have an answer.
