Ross,

To answer your questions...

We are using MySQL on our Sun box. The Windows box is running Windows 2000 Professional. The specs are: P4 @ 2.66Ghz, 1GB RAM, 40GB Ultra ATA 133 HD @ 7200 RPM.

Rob,

Looks like our two Sun boxes are about the same. Yours has a faster CPU than the one I was testing on so I would expect you'd see comparable performance.  Are you using MySQL as your SQL database?

What kind of Windows box were you testing on? I've only tested on Windows using my personal laptop (single 1.0 GHZ processsor, 512MB RAM) and it's always been slower than SUN implementation, but perhaps that's because I haven't tested on a more robust Windows box.

Ross,

Sorry for the delay.

It's a Sun Ultra-250. Here are the specs:
SunOS 5.8 Generic_108528-10 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-250
2GB RAM, 400MHz procs

Rob,

What type of Sun box are you running on?
I've tested on a 2-processor Sun Ultra-80 w/ 2-GB of memory,
I'm running MySQL, apache, a separate installation of tomcat, and Fedora
all on same box and performance is pretty good.
I'm surprised that you're not getting better performance on your Sun box....

Hello Everyone,

I have a couple of general questions I'd like to ask the group:

1. What platforms are you currently running Fedora on? Has anyone done any
performance or stress tests on a given platform? I ask because we (at Tufts)
have installed Fedora on a comparable Windows box and a Sun box and we are
seeing some significant differences in performance between the two systems
(Windows being the faster of the two platforms). I am wondering what
experiences others are having with their systems.

2. Has anyone attempted to implement Fedora with Oracle? Tufts is interested
in developing such an implementation, but we were wondering if anyone has done
any work in this area.

Thanks,
