Every time when fdm is run and a "Temporary failure in name resolution" occurs, fdm doesn't stop fetching mail but continues trying in an incredible speed and then needs more and more ram. I found it using up to 1.7 GB. As I often use suspend to ram and switch networks this occurs quite often and is quite annoying. It would be cool if this could be fixed.

    • summary: Inproper handling of "Temporary failure in name resolution" --> Improper handling of "Temporary failure in name resolution"

  • fdm uses getaddrinfo(3) to do name resolution, I can't see any obvious cases where it continues if this fails and this bug report doesn't really contain enough information to narrow it down.

Please send the output of "fdm -vvv f" which demonstrates the problem (either strip passwords or send it to me privately by email). Please make sure to include the full output so I can see your version of fdm and platform as well as whether you are using IMAP or POP3.

The problem seems to be NNTP (again), I've sent you the log.

  • Fix committed, thanks for the report.
