My default Python is 2.6.6 and every time I run fail2ban-regex on my Apache access log I get a long list of "Sorry, but no <host> found in regex." If I remove the (?:) construct I no longer get the error, but it doesn't match anything either. It appears to be triggering an IndexError for some reason (that's the exception thrown), but I have no idea why that would be the case.
