Is the raid hardware or software? If using linux software raid, the drive you reference will be an MD device, such as /dev/md1. In addition, you have to assemble the array read only before you can reference it (unless the livecd has already assembled it, whereas it could be assembled read-write which could be dangerous) I don't have specifics on how to do this ,but it should give you one avenue to investigate.
