I only thought of the trace, after having waited for too long for the 
shutdown to succeed after the system became unresponsive.

I now did a svn update and build.sh rebuild and restore from backup, to 
get the most meaningful message, but so far cannot force the problem, 
although I did try my best to stress eXist.

I use eXist for xsl transforms and some warehousing. Even poking while 
storing seems to be no problem now, queries return as fast as when idle. 
The dataset is fairly small though.

Sorry for the noise. Time to reschedule and better prepare panic actions.
