Hi all, Now that Twitter has disabled basic authentication, the twitter feed on the exist-db.org homepage seems to be broken. I see there's been some discussion of OAuth on the list this year (http://exist.markmail.org/search/?q=oauth), but it appears the attempts so far have encountered challenges. Now Norm Walsh has created an OAuth module on github (see his blog post at http://norman.walsh.name/2010/09/25/oauth), which could be the basis for an eXist adaptation. Has anyone given further thought to OAuth for eXist or had success with an adaptation? Cheers, Joe |

Hi Joe, I started working on an XQuery OAuth function but never had a chance to finish it. Here is a link to the Wikibook article on it: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/XQuery/OAuth The algorithm is pretty clear and is documented in the links on the article. The strategy would be similar to the Digest Authentication article here: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/XQuery/Digest_Authentication It should be possible to do with the use of hashing and some standard XQuery functions to put information into the HTTP headers. Chris Wallace also expressed interested in working on this. OAuth popularity is growing in many areas and critical for people doing XQuery mashups of data like Twitter and LinkedIn. - Dan On Sat, Sep 25, 2010 at 7:18 PM, Joe Wicentowski <jo...@gm...> wrote: > Hi all, > > Now that Twitter has disabled basic authentication, the twitter feed > on the exist-db.org homepage seems to be broken. > > I see there's been some discussion of OAuth on the list this year > (http://exist.markmail.org/search/?q=oauth), but it appears the > attempts so far have encountered challenges. > > Now Norm Walsh has created an OAuth module on github (see his blog > post at http://norman.walsh.name/2010/09/25/oauth), which could be the > basis for an eXist adaptation. > > Has anyone given further thought to OAuth for eXist or had success > with an adaptation? > > Cheers, > Joe > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Start uncovering the many advantages of virtual appliances > and start using them to simplify application deployment and > accelerate your shift to cloud computing. > http://p.sf.net/sfu/novell-sfdev2dev > _______________________________________________ > Exist-open mailing list > Exi...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/exist-open > -- Dan McCreary Semantic Solutions Architect office: (952) 931-9198 cell: (612) 986-1552 |

Thanks, Eric and Dan. Looks like some promising starts. By the way, while Eric's link didn't work for me, I tried another combination and found what I believe is the info in question at http://github.com/marklogic/comoms/blob/master/src/oauth.xqy. Thanks, I forgot that I haven't set up a gh-pages branch for comoms, sorry. The minimal docs for comoms are a README, its github wiki, and a video linked from the wiki. -E ________________________________________ From: Joe Wicentowski [jo...@gm...] Sent: Sunday, September 26, 2010 7:38 PM To: Eric Bloch; da...@da...
