Here is a nice write-up of the gPXE network driver API:

If you would like to write the gPXE driver, I am sure you would be
quicker than me since you have already written the etherboot driver.
But if you do not have time or motivation, I am more than happy to
work on it and have an interest in virtio, lguest, and kvm.
