Folks, Yaws 1.50 I've made a new release. Release notes, code as well as a new shiny look of the website at http://yaws.hyber.org I've learnt CSS and, well it rocks. I'm also running Johan Bevemyrs wiki at hyber (at last) I've added some content in the wiki and you're all welcome to add more to it. It's att http://yaws.hyber.org/wiki /klacke |

Not that I have any time at the moment doing this myself, but let me = anyway suggest to add a RSS feed instead (or on top) of the automatic email notification. Will do it shortly. Took a look on RSS (Thorbjorns API) and the changes the wiki would need to have: 1) a feed with just information of which page has been modified and when would be simple. 2) to add more meaningful feed with some change log and by whom, would mean need more dramatic changes: a) there's already unused 'who', with value "unknown".=20 b) one more field needed, 'info', which would be the changelog, like the information given in the version control commits What I would like to do, is to add two more input fields above the store button: change info and by whom. Then either use the unused 'who' as tuple {bywhom, info} or really add one more field to wiki record, and thus create wiki003... Anyway, there would then be function call to pageUpdateInfo, which would add to the RSS feed and possibly to an email feed the new page and change info. And some kind of to RSS or not flag should be available for the wiki configuration, how? Are there strong opinions, if such additions should be there or not? And with which kind of internal changes? Hi, RSS is soon to be supported by Yaws. I have commited yaws_rss.erl into the Yaws source. Read the preliminary documentation in doc/README.rss NB: I have still some minor things to do before it is 'released'. Hi, I just committed the last bits to make Yaws RSS capable. To read how to setup an Yaws RSS feed, see the description in doc/README.rss . Now it just a matter of making the wiki application to produce some suitable content. Basically one function needs to be called: yaws_rss:insert(wiki, new, Title, Link, Desc, Creator). The config file should then contain: <server ....> ... <rss> rss_id = wiki </rss> ... </server> Cheers, Tobbe |

Yup, I have now a rude version of wiki pages giving out the rss feed! Thanks Tobbe. I added a routine to every wiki store operation pageUpdateNotify(Page, Root, Time, Who) -> %% io:fwrite("Page ~p update at ~p by ~p, root ~p~n",=20 %% [Page, Time, Who, Root]), Title =3D io_lib:fwrite("~s was changed", [Page]), Link =3D wiki_to_html:format_link(Page, Root), Change =3D io_lib:fwrite("The ~s page has been modified", [Page]), yaws_rss:insert(wiki, xml,=20 Title, Link, Change, Who), ok. The "Who" and "Change" fields don't add any new information, as there's no input to those fields. Really, to be useful, there should be form fields in the store page to input that data. Should that be added? As I think, that some of my colleagues are not ready to jump on rss, I still play with the idea of adding the emailer together with that rss insert. Would be pretty straightforward.=20 Funny, but maybe a confusing idea would be to replace the rss db-function with the emailer :) But then one cannot have both :( regards Jouni On Mon, 2004-12-20 at 12:34 +0100, Torbjorn Tornkvist wrote: > Hi, >=20 > I just committed the last bits to make Yaws RSS capable. > To read how to setup an Yaws RSS feed, see the description > in doc/README.rss . >=20 > Now it just a matter of making the wiki application to produce > some suitable content. Regarding this feature is it possible to add the notion of virtual domain built in. It is possible to use different RSS id to define different feed, but I think it would be nice to force virtual domain separation. I think that this could be a nice addition (most notably to host several site in one server). Regarding those fields, I already did some work regarding those aspect with my user management in metafrog (site down for now due to a disk crash). The user management is built around the ejabberd user base. Maybe I could change it to add a more specific API to manage user in Yaws ? When it's up, I'll take a look. Most likely I'll have something up during the holidays ... will be difficult to explain to my wife, that it's work ... By the way, as I really haven't played much with other wiki systems out there, are there other features, that are missing from Erlang wiki? Is that what you mean ? Not exactly. I meant that we could have feeds with the same name (for example wiki) if we run several instance of the wiki for several virtual host name (for example: http://my.private.server.org/ and http://my.public.company.server.com). I have the feeling that we could achieve the separation with the current code, but that it might be better to automatically separate feed with the same app name and tag, but different host. Saying that, however I am not sure if the Wiki code is 100% compliant with virtual hosting... I think so, but I should check that. -- Mickaël Rémond http://www.erlang-projects.org/ |

My justification is that for some applications you want dynamically created RSS feeds, and possibly quite a few of them. My particular application is one RSS feed per photo album, where there can be 1-n albums. I can of course gaily use list_to_atom, but t'aint pretty. Thoughts? Thx, Bruce |

Cheers, Tobbe (BTW: I 've been thinking that it could be nice to add support for a file based RSS store. You would simple add new RSS info by hand into a file, where each entry looks like: {App,Tag,Title,Link,Desc,Creat,DateTime}. then plug in the new "file-db" via the yaws_rss API. This could be useful for sites where you don't have an application that can produce the RSS input. Any comments, anyone... ?) > > Thx, > Bruce > |

Just wondering:=20 To my logic the write append regions (<< >>) in the wiki add to the wrong end. The new text is added to the beginning of the edit field, but the edit button itself stays in the end. Either we should move the edit button to the start, where the last editions are, or append new fields to the end. Comments on that? Jouni By the way, I have the email and rss based page update notification features "almost" ready, but they require a few changes literally everywhere. New field in the wiki pages itself, "who" and "change comment" inputs in the page store pages. Plus it seems, that the full Arg must be passed to the wiki functions, to have access to the cookies. Cookie is needed to store the "Who", as already during testing, it's obvious, that one is not willing to fill that info in "every * time". --=20 Jouni Ryn=F6 mailto://Jou...@fm.../ http://www.geo.fmi.fi/~ryno/ Finnish Meteorological Institute http://www.fmi.fi/ Space Research http://www.geo.fmi.fi/ P.O.BOX 503 Tel (+358)-9-19294656 FIN-00101 Helsinki FAX (+358)-9-19294603 Finland priv-GSM (+358)-50-5302903 =20 "It's just zeros and ones, it cannot be hard" |

Hi all I started to create a search icon for the wiki pages, but could not find suitable font for the icon text. Plus the other icons seem to be so nicely created, that I would like to ask for help. Whoever did the previous job, one more icon please? regards Jouni |
