Have there been any unicode updates/accessionss that
would affect our recommendations?

In Unicode 5.0, which will be released in a few months, the
following characters were approved (* indicates new characters):
*2184 LATIN SMALL LETTER REVERSED C
(uppercase is: 2183 ROMAN NUMERAL REVERSED ONE HUNDRED)
*214E TURNED SMALL F
(uppercase is: 2132 TURNED CAPITAL F)
*2C76 LATIN SMALL LETTER HALF H
*2C75 LATIN CAPITAL LETTER HALF H

(1) as per D Anderson's comment below, two of the Claudian
letters are in Unicode, the third is accepted for 5.0 (see
also David Perry's comments on the Ancient Unicode list
http://lsv.uky.edu/archives/unicode.html March 2006).
(2) for mark-up, however, it has been the norm to display
these characters as ((ps)) vel sim. Perhaps we need a
three-way <choice> as for denarius, etc.
I am not deleting this entry, but will assign it to myself
and try to update the guidelines accordingly soon...
