tl;dr: I reset .e, the floating icons disappeared, but systray still doesn't display the icons. I don't think it's the theme, as far as I remember the problem was already there when I started looking for other themes, but I'm not 100% sure on my memory. Anyway, I went with the idea of resetting the configs (always logged off, of course). 1. So, I did what you said, I renamed .e to .e.old and logged in. It asked me a few basic questions (language, keyboard, etc). By the way, this initial setup already had the "woody" theme that I had installed... Anyway, at the end of the setup it said "Install conman for network management support". After the setup was done, I got an empty screen with mouse. Black background, no shelves or icons or anything else, just the mouse; left and right clicking didn't do anything, no context menus, nothing. 2. I rebooted, and logged in. This time I got the lower shelf with shortcuts for terminology, iceweasel, etc, plus some other icons on the desktop (Home, root, Temp). It had the same "woody" theme. It didn't have the wifi icon floating anywhere, I was curious to know if my problem was fixed or if I didn't even have wifi. First thing I did was click on the terminology icon. It never opened, and I got a "frozen" status again: mouse goes around, but nothing responds to it, no menu when (left or right) clicking anywhere, icons are completely ignored. 3. I rebooted again and logged in. It started loading my desktop and got stuck in a message "Loading conf_comp". 4. I rebooted again and logged in. This time was similar to the first, except the background was not black, it kept the gray image with debian's spiral taht I have in the login screen. Again, mouse moved around but no other effects, no elements were present. 5. I restored my original .e and rebooted again. Got the same result: gray background, no visual elements, mouse moves but clicking does nothing. 6. I renamed .e to .e.old again and rebooted with no .e in my user. I got the setup again. This time I disabled composite effects and openGL (in the previous time I left the default which is the opposite). This time I got a desktop, same as "2" above. This time, instead of clicking on Terminology I went for Settings, it opened fine. I checked the theme, it was indeed using the theme that I had installed, not the system theme. Then I went for Terminology, it opened. I pinged google, I had internet. \o/ I couldn't see the wifi icon anywhere, but network was working. I thought of enabling systray in my shelf, but the option was no longer in the list of available contents for it. After some exploring I found it in Settings > Modules > Utilities, it was not loaded. I clicked on "load" and it became available to add in the shelf. Then I added in the shelf... no icons in it. After that I enabled Xembed (as mentioned here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Enlightenment#Enabling_the_system_tray), but still no icons were displayed there. I rebooted... still nothing. Now when I open the software that would add an icon to that systray (skype, dropbox), their icons are nowhere, and I have an empty systray in my shelf. I don't know if we're closer to the solution or farther away. heheheh In any case I still have the old .e, I'm wondering if I can find any clue in it that would tell me what was that element in which systray icons were being displayed before. But I have no idea how or where to look for that. Thanks again!
