Howdy All, So I've finally got Elsa rolling in Bodhi to the point where it loads X and logs into E without issues. My only question now is does anyone know the easiest/most straight forward method of having it be one of the "display manager" options you can select from when configuring the default display server (for instance if you already have GDM installed and then you add KDM you get a menu asking which of the two should be the default). Currently I am logging into a TTY and then manually running "sudo elsa start" Also - does anyone know how to stop Elsa once it is running? Running "sudo elsa stop" in terminal reports something about a lock file and then nothing happens. Hi Jeff, i don't know if you are basing Bodhi in any other distro. For debian-like distros, tehre are scripts in /etc/rc2.d (which are symlinks to /etc/init.d) and there is also a variable that sets which is thedefault display manager, and prevents any other DM to even load. I think that var is in /etc/default/something.....but you can look for it in the kdm or gdm scripts in init.d. Hope it helps =) 2011/8/16 Jeff Hoogland <Jef...@li...> > Howdy All, > > So I've finally got Elsa rolling in Bodhi to the point where it loads X and > logs into E without issues. I'm running Ubuntu and gdm comes as default. I'm also installing E from svn using easy_e17.sh script. The default install path is /opt/e17 when using the easy_17.sh script, can Elsa be launched as dm with that path ? Would love to see some instructions or more detailed Elsa README. Regards -- Ingi |

I have elsa installed, and after changing daemon path to /usr/local/sbin in the /etc/init.d/elsa file, elsa was up and running. But I'm not able to login. I can select the user name and session, the clock works, but the password field stays blank, and the password icon appears greyed-out. Gdm works. Really like the looks of elsa. Thanks for the reply. I just installed elementary version 63292, no change in elsa. Google hits hint that this might be a PAM issue that's still not resolved? I copied /etc/pam.d/gdm to /etc/pam.d/elsa but still had same effect. Then I copied /etc/pam.d/gdm-autologin to /etc/pam.d/elsa-autologin, same result. Any changes required to the files? I found that there was a /usr/local/etc/pam.d/elsa file. e17 is installed here in /usr/local, so that makes sense. I saved this file to elsa.orig and then copied my /etc/pam.d/gdm file to /usr/local/etc/pam.d/elsa as Jeff suggested, but still had the same result. If it's a pam issue, is there some other path or env that needs to be changed because of the install to /usr/local/? Don't know. Tried everything, all the suggestions and hints from googling, reinstalling everything from svn, at 63455 now. Elsa starts, can't type in user name but can select it from the user list, can't type in password. Can reboot etc from Elsa. In /var/log/elsa.log still see "ERR<2324>: edge edge_tuil.c:2442 edge_object_size_min_restricted_calc() file /usr/local/sare/elsa/themes/default.edj, group elsa has a non-fixed part 'password'. Adding 'fined: 1 1;' to source EDC may help. Continuing discarding faulty part." No idea on that. Elsa looks great, gdm3 awful. This class is very hard. You may have done that the wrong way around. /usr/local/etc/pam.d/elsa would be where compiling elsa put it's own PAM file, but your system is likely looking for PAM files in /etc/pam.d. So copy the first (the one you saved) into the second. On the other hand, sounds like you just can't type stuff, user name OR password. I'll give the standard advice - compile all the EFL AND elsa from the same SVN revision, and make sure to clean out ALL old versions of both first. Might be useful to keep an eye on the enl...@li... mailing list, see if there are any new bug fixes. -- A big old stinking pile of genius that no one wants coz there are too many silver coated monkeys in the world. |

Neither the user nor the password entry accept any input. I have rebuild all of EFL and elsa twice since then, so far without success. Since yesterday elsa work again, you can type your hostname and > password again. Thanks Raster our superhero. > > -- > Michaël Bouchaud Thanks Michael and SuperRaster! I am able to type hostname and password now, but I have another problem: First, I deleted the old trunk directory and used the build script from http://www.enlightenment.org/p.php?p=contribute&l=en to rebuild all the EFL components, then elementary, then elsa. I am using the elsa init file posted here: http://www.bodhilinux.com/forums/index.php?/topic/2108-how-to-auto-start-elsa/, but I added /usr/local/sbin to the PATH on line 15 and changed the DAEMON path on line 18 to /usr/local/sbin/elsa. After rebooting, elsa starts and I can enter hostname, password, select Enlightenment, and click the drop down check box. The elsa screen goes away and Enlightenment starts. But then I'm returned to the Elsa screen again. I open a terminal (cntl-alt-f1) and list running processes and enlightenment is running. If I go back to the Elsa screen and try to login again it rejects the login. If I try to shutdown, reboot or suspend using the elsa menu box nothing happens. But, if I reboot from the terminal and try to use elsa's menu to reboot before I login, it works fine. Is there something else in the /etc/init.d/elsa file that needs to be changed, or do you think something else is wrong? Or is there a different init file I should be using. e-version is 63642, amd64. thanks! mh |
