yesterday I rebuilt all efl+e17 using released tarballs (efl 1.7.3 and e17 beta), just to see if my problems are related to current svn... well, looks like they're not :( here is what happens: - on first attempt to run e, right after machine boot, e always freezes showing the splash screen with fancy squares. I have to kill it from a console - after killing it, at restart it does segfault displaying the WSOD (backtrace attached). I hit F1 and can finally have it running, but without initial apps - I tried to run it through valgrind but in this case it doesn't freeze nor it segfault. it is as it would be a question of timing, i.e. not happening with slow startup. I guess valgrind log can't be helpy in this case, but I can send it here if you want - I tried unloading the extra modules I use (comp-scale, alarm, cpu, net) and it still freezes on first run, but this time it doesn't segfault on second attempt -- Massimo Maiurana GPG keyID #7044D601 La fede e' credere in cio' che sai non essere vero [Mark Twain] |

I disabled "start gnome services at login" and now e doesn't freeze anymore :) for some reason running gnome-settings-daemon was blocking e startup at some point, I'll try to run it in some way *after* e is started. -- Massimo Maiurana GPG keyID #7044D601 La fede e' credere in cio' che sai non essere vero [Mark Twain] |

this is a good point; we may want to delay gsd launch until we've successfully captured the xsettings atom On Fri, Dec 14, 2012 at 12:52 PM, han...@gm... < han...@go...> wrote: > On Fri, Dec 14, 2012 at 12:15 PM, Massimo Maiurana <mai...@gm...> > wrote: > > Massimo Maiurana, il 10/12/2012 22:45, ha scritto: > > > >> - on first attempt to run e, right after machine boot, e always freezes > >> showing the splash screen with fancy squares. > > > > found the culprit! > > > > I disabled "start gnome services at login" and now e doesn't freeze > anymore :) > > for some reason running gnome-settings-daemon was blocking e startup at > some > > point, I'll try to run it in some way *after* e is started. > > > > there is a conflict between e_xsettings and gsd as both want to > acquire the xsettings manager atom. currently both are enabled by > default which is probably not that good.. > > > -- > > > > Massimo Maiurana GPG keyID #7044D601 > > > > La fede e' credere in cio' che sai non essere vero > > [Mark Twain] > > > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > LogMeIn Rescue: Anywhere, Anytime Remote support for IT.
