When the latest version of Thunderbird (24.0.1) was downloaded to my system, the print dialog for TB would flash on top and and then end up behind the TB window. When I disable Enigmail it works normally. I upgraded to 1.6 and it didn't make any difference. This is annoying, I would rate it as minor+.

  • I assume you talk about the dialog that lets you choose the printer settings etc, not the print preview dialog?

In general, Enigmail cannot influence where and how dialogs are opened, that's part of the Thunderbird platform functionality.

The print dialog is a standard Thunderbird dialog, with no adaptations on the side of Enigmail. I cannot imagine how enabling or disabling Enigmail would influence if the dialog is shown on top or not. I would not be surprised if this would randomly occur with Enigmail enabled and disabled.

Well I am sorry if you don't believe me but this is exactly what is
happening. It started when the latest upgrade to TB was automatically
downloaded about a week ago. I have just noticed that it only happens on
messages that have been decrypted by enigmail.

  • I could just as well reply that this doesn't happen with the same version of Enigmail on Thunderbird 17. Thus it is a Thunderbird bug ...

Today I encountered the same problem. An indication that it might be caused by enigmail is the fact that in other windows of thunderbird printing works just fine (Even if I try printing a not decrypted message). Thanks for your consideration. Karl

  • Is this on Windows 7? As I'm using Windows 7 since about one year ago, I have seen many many occurences of newly opened active windows vanishing behind other, previously inactive windows. It always happens within the first second of the new window becoming active. This behaviour is not limited to Thunderbird or other single applications, it seems to be a bug of windows itself.

  • I've tested this on windows again and must withdraw my last comment. When trying to print a nonencrypted and nonsigned message, the print dialog stays in front. When trying to print an encrypted or signed message, the print dialog gets behind the main Thunderbird window. There seems to be some kind of redraw/reload of the message and this puts the main Thunderbird window in front again.

  • Seems to happen only with inline-PGP, and only if the print dialog is displayed (not with the print preview dialog).
