1-wire, fun stuff. I have a nice 1-wire library but for AVR microcontroller. Dallas/Maxim have come out with very interesting chips in the last few years. For those who don't know, 1-wire is good for temperature monitoring. They have other 1-wire devices but the temperature chips was one of the first ones released and I have a few of them here. They can be easily attached to stepper/servo motors/driver heatsink to sense overheating. Multiple (hundreds???) 1-wire devices can be connected together using the same 2 wires, somewhat like a string of Christmas lights. Why 2 wires when it is called 1-Wire? Well you need a ground return wire. Easy to implement if needed. for onboard PIC programmer, I was thinking of implementing the popular JDM serial port programmer on board. Doesn't take many parts. Anyone can the flash new firmware into the PIC using a available free linux or windows program. Jim -----Original Message----- From: emc...@li... Subject: Re: [Emc-users] Serial to Pic IO Controller For whoever writes the code, if you want to include 1-wire protocol, I think I can dig up some asm I wrote for the F84 a while back to do this. As implemented, it does not deal with device serial numbers, so it's limited to one device per PIC pin used - but that should be pretty easy to add. For the roll-your-own, it would be nice to include programming capability onboard - or use a PIC which can re-program itself. |
