Egoboo 2.7.3 Stable Release

Egoboo is a working cool 3D dungeon crawling game in the spirit of nethack. Currently we have Windows and should be compileable in Linux and Mac.

Finally we have Egoboo stable and working again. 6 months of hard work has really paid of and the game has undergone massive improvements and changes!

Most important release highlights:
- Hotseat play! Up to four players can play at the same pc.
- New modules (World Map, Abyss 2 and Cobol Emperor's Palace). Including module linking, where you can directly travel from one module to another.
- Better graphics. Improved particle system, support for antialiasing, support for more than 8-bit textures, full alpha support.
- Improved the physics engine.
- Much better stability (less memory leaks and crashes)
- In game control settings (much more user-friendly)
- Many overall AI improvements

Egoboo 2.7.0 Released!

Finally! After months of hard work from the community and after some serious bug testing, we have finally packaged together this new stable release. Non windows users stay put as the Linux/Macintosh release should be up shortly, as soon as they are uploaded.

Biggest changes this release is the completion of the gamestory. You can now play the game from beginning to end. We have also implemented SDL_image, adding support for many more image formats and vastly improving the image handling. We want to thank our new composer, Edward Blakely, who has composed a high quality music track for the community and is currently working on his next track for the game!... read more

New stable release: Egoboo 2.6.8

After weeks with intensive beta testing and hard work we have the biggest bugfix update for Egoboo finished that has yet been made to date. The new release package should now work on both Mac and Linux! The developers give their thanks to the beta testers who participated in the testing phase and made this release possible.

Forums down again?

Seems that we have lost the connection to the forum database again. The last fix was a bit of a hack. I'm trying to fix it with the right tool, now.

Fixes to the Stable 2.6.5b

There have been a series with problems installing Egoboo 2.6.5b (Stable) on both Windows and Linux systems. Game crashed, install errors, etc.

I have uploaded a fix and hopefully everything works smoothly now. The release is still named 2.6.5b

Forums need repair

Sourceforge has completed the MySQL transfer/upgrade. Apparently our forum software is not working with the new version of MySQL. We may have to wait until Zefz has a free moment to deal with the problem...

Forums Temporarily Down

Sourceforge is migrating the MySQL database from California servers to Chicago servers. They have not given a target time to finish this, but I hope it will be soon.

We have finally stepped away from the informe forums and got our own forum up on the sourceforge server.

informe forum troubles

As of June 28, 2008 it looks like the egoboo.informe.com forum has been offline for at least 2 days. I keep getting the error "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." and the error persists even when I try an anonymous proxy. The post count seems to have jumped to over 29,000 overnight, so it is likely we suffered a spam attack.

Further Development and new Release

Egoboo is a working cool 3D dungeon crawling game in the spirit of nethack. Currently we have Windows and Linux. We have people working on updating the Mac to newest date.

We have a new Stable release ready, version 2.6.3. It contains a few new modules a lot of updates and bugfixes. There were a lot of startup crash bugfixes, so more people should be able to enjoy the game properly!

In development, there are a lot of community and fan contributions that are steadily being added into the game. Some of the creations are really good. We are also working on getting networking to work properly so that Egoboo can reach a new level of multiplayer gameplay!

Stable Egoboo 2.6.1 Released

A new stable release of Egoboo is now available for download! Grab it from the download section. A number of bugfixes and also some new game content (See changelog for details).

In addition we also have full Linux support for this version release.

Egoboo 2.7.5b released!

This is a mid-between update for 2.7.5 and the next one. Adds multiple fixes and updates (See changelog). Most importantly adds missing SDL files that made the game not run on many computers.

Egoboo 2.7.5

Merry christmas everyone! This christmas brings a little treat for everyone, as Egoboo 2.7.5 is finally released. New map, multiplayer, limitless level ups and tons of bugfixes are only a few changes and additions. I want also to thank everyone for their help to get Egoboo this far!

Important Patch

Some changes and fixes werent correctly added last release (2.4.4), so this new version 2.4.4b is patched to correct this error.

* The Paladin Starter modifications
* Sound bug error
* Some minor graphical things

We also finally now have a Linux binary up for Egoboo!

Egoboo 2.4.4 Released!

Egoboo version 2.4.4 is now downloadable in the downloads section. Changelog is listed with the download and in the installer. Mostly fixes, updates, tweaks and game enchancements. Egoboo 2.4.3 Released!

Hurray! A new big update to Egoboo! List of changes below. We also have a new forum which is

- New Feature: Ingame video and audio setup now works!
- New Feature: Ansiotropic, Bilinear and Trilinear texture filtering has been added in addition to Linear filtering.
- New Feature: High wisdom and intelligence can now directly influence all spell damage dealt
- New Feature: The badass Zombi monster has new special powers and improved AI!
- New Feature: Overlay effects have been added (Gnome starter)!
- Update: Added the autocamera rotation function (Still needs some work for perfection).
- Update: Pressing F8 ingame now pauses the game until you press F8 again.
- Update: Pressing the buttons "control+q" now quits the game anytime.
- Update: Some optimizing and improvement in the sound and music code.
- Update: Xp penality upon death has been reduced from 25% to 15%.
- Update: Cleaned up the game structure, reducing number of files needed by 195 and disk usage by 780 kb.
- Bugfix: A bug in the soldier starter causing locked doors not to open
- Bugfix: When reloading gunpowder weapons, the G'nome no longer throws away an ammo box while doing so.
- Bugfix: Holding the Spork of Fire always made you instantly win any level.

3D NetHack like game - First Release

Egoboo is now available for download along with the full
source code. Check out the nice screenshots on the project
homepage. We are now looking for people to do an
OpenGL port and to add NetHack like features.
