Hi, ed2k-gtk-gui 0.6.3 has just been released. This is a hotfix release for the new 1.0.x cores, of which proper packages are available now as well (there has been a numbering change in the core package versioning). The binaries are now called /usr/bin/overnetclc and /usr/bin/edonkeyclc. ed2k-gtk-gui 0.6.3 _requires_ a 1.0.x core (at least if you use it locally). It should work with older v5x cores as well, but don't complain if it doesn't. GUI and core Packages and GUI source code can be found at the usual location: http://ed2k-gtk-gui.sourceforge.net A short overview of the changes can be found here: http://ed2k-gtk-gui.sourceforge.net/files/ChangeLog-short Most notably, starting and connecting to a locally running core should be dead easy now and not require any weird configuration of the core etc. any more. Installation of the core should be dead easy as well now given that there are ready-made RPM and .deb packages for most i386/Linux flavours. Enjoy and a great weekend to everyone Cheers -Tim |

hi! I'm using the edonkey2000 GUI for windows XP. I have downloaded both the cores edonkey2000 and overnet. i installed both and quit the program when it runs. i then go to edonkey and put it information given. In the path for core i choose the path to the core ".exe" file and it doesn't seem to work. please mail me with all the things I need to do. Please try and simplify it so its easier for me. thanks a lot -- Anand Shah |

Hi everyone, Brand-new and improved, here is ed2k-gtk-gui 0.6.2. This is basically a bug-fix release. Download from: http://ed2k-gtk-gui.sf.net/download.shtml Changelog summary: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ v0.6.2 - The 'All your cores are belong to us' release ------------------------------------------------------------------------ * Fixed toolbar in non-green mode with themes that have a radiant background in the toolbar (no more artifacts around the labels and the '?' button) (sorry it took so long until it got fixed) * 'transfered' value is shown again as in previous versions, ie. the (often inflated) value by the core is displayed, and only if 'transfered' is greater than the filesize we calculate a better value from the gaplist. * remember (again) which columns in the download view are supposed to be hidden and which are supposed to be shown. * Fixed erratic GUI freeze on selecting 'shutdown core' * Fixed crash that would happen in certain rare conditions while sorting the download list * Fixed problem with insensitive Go! button in connect dialog when core is on remote host (hopefully; #853664) * Wait a couple of seconds after auto-spawning the core, to give the core opportunity to get going. Otherwise auto-connect on startup would fail after auto-spawning the core (thanks to MrMario64 for pointing this out). * added --noob-wants-to-run-as-root command line switch for those noobs who insist they must absolutely run the GUI as root *sigh*. Must be first command line switch if multiple ones are used. * added --enable-static-gnet2 switch to ./configure, mainly to be able to build packages that are statically linked with gnet2. However, if no gnet2 headers are found, the shipped gnet2 will automatically be used instead now. * for MacOSX: poll-emulator (no need for libpoll - it's just one source file) Use with ./configure --enable-static-poll to force it (otherwise it will automatically be enabled if no poll.h include files are found) * ed2k-link handler now allows you to add downloads in paused state * fixed 'status window clear interval' and 'server rotate interval' (amount configured was taken to be in seconds and not in minutes as it should be) (#866410, #859741) * new icon theme: bluecore (submitted by Anonymous) * mingw and win32 patches by Hazeman * misc. other minor fixes Enjoy! Cheers -Tim |

On Tuesday 23 December 2003 19:58, Hubert Sokołowski wrote: > are you going to port ed2k_gui to windows? > Let me put it like this: I have successfully cross-compiled ed2k_gui on my debian box for win32 using mingw32. The resulting .exe seems to run fine on windows using the dropline gtk runtime library package, BUT the networking part (gnet) does not seem to work (it does not even resolve localhost), even though gnet2 should work fine on windows. I am suspecting some issue with the cross-compiling part here, but I don't have the slightest idea what the problem is. Ironically, the networking part of that very same .exe works perfectly fine under WINE on linux (WINE is a windows emulator that can run windows .exe files under linux). As I do not have a windows system myself, and I do not plan to install one either, it will take a win32 programmer to figure out the problems. Possibly ed2k_gui will work just fine if it is compiled natively on win32. I have not tried, and I do not know of anyone else who has. But given that it cross-compiles fine, it should be a piece of cake to make it compile in a native win32 environment as well. If you are a win32 programmer, and want to give it a shot, please do :) Cheers -Tim |

sry 'bout subscribing wrong, I was wondering what the format for post-download command was in the gui options, ie whether the filename was passed as an argument etc. Also is it executed before the file is hashed and added to shared? My aim is to give myself a move file dialog that complements the very sloooow hashing algorithm, by only making it have to run once. c |

Hi, ed2k-gtk-gui v0.6.1 has been released. It should work fine with core v51.2. Get it from: http://ed2k-gtk-gui.sourceforge.net/ There are not many changes at the surface, but the code has been restructured quite a bit under the hub. The main reason for this release was the new core, and more precisely the fact that the new core takes different command line arguments then before to make it listen to a GUI controller ('-g' and '-l' now, as opposed to '-' and '!' for core versions up to 0.50.1). Known issues: * the GUI might sometimes freeze for up to a couple of minutes after you select 'shutdown core' from the logo pop-up menu, or alternatively it might not pop up the Connect dialog as it should (in which case you have to select 'disconnect from core' yourself). * download view columns that have been hidden might show up again when restarting the GUI. * (a follow-up release that fixes these issues is planned for the not-so-distant future). On the plus side, we have a wider variety of packages this time, including some that have systray icon support enabled by default. Also, this version should work fine on *BSD again. Major changes and new features: * Supports core v51.2 (spawning core and detecting running core) * New download view code (less CPU intensive) * Better 'time left' estimation (based on speed averages) * Double-clicking on systray icon shows/hides GUI now * New GuiCoreConnection code (fixes a problem with status updates, and generally makes the code a lot more modular). * Translation updates: Italian, German, Dutch, Spanish, Polish (ernieball, cknoerle, joostc, ricesvinto, utak3r) * GUI tries to set the file descriptor limit to the highest value allowed just before spawning the core. * Documentation (handbook) updates * Works around broken KDE system tray panel bug where the GUI tray icon would just disappear under certain circumstances. * --disable-systray switch for configure (is disabled automatically on MacOSX and on systems with old Gtk versions now) * Fallback routine for detecting a running core that does not use the proc file system, but parses 'ps' output (should work on FreeBSD and other systems). * Fixes pipe problem on *BSD (GUI should work there again now). * when using a remote core, the GUI will be able to preview downloads if the temp directory is mounted on the computer where the GUI runs (the ~/.ed2k_gui/options file needs to be edited directly to enable this - see the last two options there). * Compiles under mingw32 (does not work yet on win32 though due to some weird gnet issues on win32) * Various miscellaneous fixes and minor improvements Enjoy! Cheers -Tim |

Hey, A new overnet and edonkey2000 core v51.2 has been released. It seems to work fine so far, and fixes the problems with v51. The command line arguments that you need to pass to this version (and all future versions) have changed. Now you need to pass: -g to make the core listen for a GUI, and -l (=loop) to make the core not accept input from the command line. (It used to be '-' and '!'). This means unfortunately that ed2k-gtk-gui v0.6.0 will not be able to detect running v51.2 cores, and won't be able to spawn v51.2 cores correctly. These issues are being fixed in cvs - expect a v0.6.1 release of the GUI soon. Meanwhile, you have two options: (1) keep using v50.1 and ed2k-gtk-gui 0.6.0 until v0.6.1 comes out. (2) start the v51.2 core manually with: ./overnet0.51.2 - ! -g -l (The first two arguments will be ignored by the core, but they will make sure that the GUI is able to detect the running core). As always, please use the 'screen' utility to put the core into the background, not '&'. Cheers -Tim |

Check whether the following happened: In my experience overnet still does not handle the case properly where a corruption during complete is detected. Then it should disassemble the 1.1.part file again in its part files, but does not always seem to do so. Make sure your 1.1.part file is not > 9.3 MB. If it is, do this: split -b 9728000 1.1.part mv xaa 1.1.part rm x* (when the core is not running). Cheers -Tim |

Unfortunately the core is only available as a binary. However, there is also cdonkey (http://cdonkey.suche.org), which is an open-source core that works with ed2k-gtk-gui and supports both edonkey and overnet as far as I know (not sure how far the overnet support is though).
