It has disappeared. It involved some assembly code and it only worked for x86 with particular compiler flags -- indeed it depended very much on GCC internals IIRC --. Besides that, it needed to create a database of functions and some other stuff that slowed ECL significantly.

I noticed that the docs talk about a profiler, but running ./configure
--help shows no options for enabling a profiler. I can see profiler
code (profile.d), but doesn't really look like it is built.
