uname -a
Linux debian-6 2.6.32-5-686 #1 SMP Sun May 6 04:01:19 UTC 2012 i686 GNU/Linux

I resolved the issue this way:

CFLAGS=-fstack-protector ./configure
CFLAGS=-fstack-protector ./make

Discussion

  • Sorry, but you do not say what problem this solves. No hint on what to see? How ECL fails? ECL builds fine on my two copies of Debian (http://ecls.sourceforge.net/logs.html) including one with the version above (http://ecls.sourceforge.net/logs/intel32)

  • I checked the documentation for GCC and this does not solve anything: it just inserts checks for buffer overflows and the program will exit if they ever occur.

    Perhaps that the original poster refers to a Debian security policy rather than
    an actual bug? I can't confirm that there is such a policy, though.
