Eci kernel module driver Tested version: 1.45 Test enviroment: Duron 650MHz Linux 2.4.18 Linux-ATM 2.4.0 ADSL Line: RFC1483/Routed/LLC speed 512/256 Test duration: 3h 15min Tested programs and protocols: ftp, http, ssh, pop3, smtp, ping, ping flood, nmap, opera, netscape, tcp, udp, icmp Test flow frame: Line open at 17:34 icmp pop3 smtp ssh ftp upload ftp download ftp download ping flood nmap http Box hang totally at 20:49 during web surfing with opera. Test flow: icmp ping with normal packet size and interval, 50 packets sent. 1% packet loss. pop3 Recieved email from pop3 server just fine. smtp Sent email through smtp server just fine. ssh 1 ssh connection work just fine. 2 simultanous ssh connections work just fine. ftp upload Uploaded small ascii file to ftp server. works just fine. ftp download downloaded 30Mb file. transfer speed 52k/s. works just fine. estimate cpu load during download 2.08 !!! douplechecked ftp download with 4Mb file. works just fine. ping flood ping -f host at internet, 15% packet loss. nmap tcp scanned host at internet, real slow scanning. scan aborted due low speed. nmap work only with -P0 option enabled. If -P0 was not set I got following error: FATAL: Unknown datalink type (19) Caplen: 0; packet http Web surfing is real slow with eci. http requests takes real long time, even with known highspeed servers. Connecting to server takes real long time. After http request and connection is made, data from server comes in just fine. This is douplecheked with netscape and opera, many times. Box hang System hang totally during web surfing with opera. No syslog entry or oops about hang. Yesterday I was also testing 1.45 version and also during that 1h test my box hang totally with web surfing with netscape. opera caused 3 oops while eci was loaded and used... Conclusion Eci kernel module driver is not ready or really usable yet. Driver developement should still stay on beta stage. Speed optimation is needed and totals system hangs must be solved out as oops with other running programs while eci module is loaded. Syslog messages about this test session is available by request.
