Hmmm, i have tried your setup with a my Emacs and also
a fresh Emacs, started with emacs -q -no-site-file and only
loading these libraries and it works always fine.
1. byte-compilation problem. Checck all makefiles of all these
packages if you have setup them correctly.
2. Removes all *.elc files of these packages and test again if
it works not byte-compiled.

I did this, still got the issue and then went through my .emacs,
and found a really old entry (require 'jde-ecb), removed that and
ecb came up fine. I now am trying to recompile all the other
packages and have gotten stuck on speedbar-0.13/sb-w3.el. When I
try to byte-compile this, it complains that it can't find the
required file, w3-imenu. Well, I was using w3-4.0pre.23 so I
downloaded the latest, w3-4.0pre.46, built this, looked around
and didn't see the w3-imenu. Tried the recompile for shits and
giggles and of course the byte-compile gave the same error.
I will ask on the gnu groups about this issue, but ecb seems to
be fine and, WOW, am I excited to try it. Looks really useful.
Thanks. Sorry about the old entry causing me to ask a question
that noone really could have helped me out on.
I don't want to be the rock. Yeah, okay, what do you want to be?
I want to be the piece of glass.
