Bernhard just sent me his German translation, it's in CVS and it works
(there are some conflicts in menu key shortcuts, but they'll be fixed
This mail concerns the format of the Getting Started text. That dialog
pops up when users run eboard for the first time (eboard detects that the
users does not have a ~/.eboard directory and pops the dialog).
The content should be brief (if it is too long, it'll end up achieving the
EULA-effect of Windows proprietary programs, people see that chunk of text
before them and just rush for the Close / Dismiss /Accept / "Yes, I
agree to sell my soul to Bill Gates" button before
reading - I _want_ newbies to read that text before sending me email with
"how do I open a PGN in eboard ? Does eboard support PGN ?")
That text uses the characters \200 up to \204 as special markup (200 and
204 there are octal numbers, these are 128 to 132 in decimal, and this
markup should be honored, else the dialog will look awful.
So here goes the quick markup reference:
\200 : switches to the LARGE font (the one the first line is written in)
\201 : switches to the Medium font (the one used in subtitles)
\202 : switches to the small font (the one used in the regular body)
\203 : changes current text color to blue (used in web links and menu
\204 : changes color to black
The last character in the whole text must be a markup character (anyone, I
used \200 in the original but any will do), else the last block of text
never gets written. (the code works by accumulating parts of text with the
same font/color, and the accumulated text is only written to the text
widget when a \2XX tag is found).
The size of the current font affects the vertical size of an empty line,
so one way to control the space between paragraphs is changing the font of
For a glimpse of the portuguese and german Getting started boxes
(the German one will probably still change a little):
I also noticed that I forgot to tag the "From ICS", "From PGN Files"
strings of the "Games on Client" dialog for translation. I'll do it
shortly, but the translators can just send me a private email with the
translations for those and I'll modify the .po files on my own.
Also, while the names of the Sound Events are in the pot file for
translation, the code in eboard does not use the translation yet, if you
test a translation and don't see sound events translated, don't worry,
it's my fault, not yours. It'll be fixed soon.
