#15 syntax coloring ignores special characters

The syntax coloring options don't seem to affect (at least) %
(percent), @ (at), $ (dollar sign), and \$ (backslash-dollar
sign).

In Eclipse, I usually configure the window
background to black, and change the foreground colors to
something that'll look good on a black background; when I
configure colors for the EPIC perl editor, the special characters
listed above still show up in black.

    The bug was actually fixed (see bug [ 735355 ] syntax highlighting for $) but
    regressed.
    Will be fixed in next version.
