Hello, I plan to move from Archlinux to Free(PC)BSD soon and, considering that dvdwizard is my favorite tool for producing DVDs, I wonder if there is some issue with the program on FreeBSD? Hi all, I am just about to check the DVDwizard tool and it seems to be exactly the tool I was looking for... Well, I have the situation that I want to create a DVD that consists of 3 or 4 short movies (each about 20 minutes long). Now I want to have the main DVD menu (VMGM) where I can select the movie. However, I do not want to have a chapter menu as it makes no real sense with these short movies. Unfortunately I am not able to get this running... My command line is (for a test with two movies): $ dvdwizard -y -T "My Titel" -t "My Movie 1" -c 0 movie1.mpg -t "My Movie 2" -c 0 movie2.mpg This leads to a main-menu with the two entries "My Movie 1" and "My Movie 2" however I still have the "Select Chapter" menu (the questionmark in a circle) - and this is the one I want to get rid off. How can I do this (I do not want to modify the bash scripts itself...) Thanks for any feedback on this question! Regards Mathias -- Mathias Koehrer mat...@ar... |

Hi. I wonder if this comes trough.... dvdwizard 0.6.4 has limit of 9 titles. Is there a workaround for it, ie. modify the XML file and copy one additional titleset in there with respective filepaths? |

If you have problems using dvdwizard with dvdauthor 0.7.0 and if dvdauthor output contains: INFO: no default video format, must explicitly specify NTSC or PAL you should either test dvdwizard 0.7.0pre from svn or set environment variable VIDEO_FORMAT, e. g. VIDEO_FORMAT=PAL dvdwizard -t My_Movie.mpg or put your default video format into ~/.config/video_format, e.g. echo "PAL" > ~/.config/video_format or echo "NTSC" > ~/.config/video_format BTW: If you are using current dvdwizard 0.7.0pre and do not set TVNORM at dvdwizard.conf, TVNORM is also initialized using either VIDEO_FORMAT or ~/.config/video_format. Only if none of these are set the fallback default "PAL" will be used. So you do not longer need to set up default TVNORM at dvdwizard.conf. Just use either general environment variable VIDEO_FORMAT or ~/.config/video_format. Remember you may also set up TVNORM with dvdwizard command line option -N or --tvnorm. With current dvdwizard 0.7.0pre this will not only set TVNORM but also VIDEO_FORMAT at every call of dvdauthor. Markus |

The DVD title is set much larger than the stream title. So less characters may be used for the DVD title. We don't know how much before the title output will be build, because this depends on the characters and the font. Markus |

I used a shorter title and got a successful execution. Thank you. I had a 35 character -T string that included 5 spaces in succession between the last two alpha strings. Cutting that to 4 didn't work, and to 3 neither. So I changed the original from -T to -t, and completed without any DVDwizard errors. I wonder what the -T limit is, and why it's so short? I tried opening the output (files in VIDEO_TS) in VLC 1.2.0-git, but it just window resizes and jiggles and then disappears no matter which I choose. Kaffeine plays if I choose the right file. So, now I just point K3B to the dir containing VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS and tell it to burn to DVD, or point to the contents of VIDEO_TS, or is either OK? If only the VIDEO_TS content, what is the empty AUDIO_TS dir for? The only thing I've ever done with K3B before is burn an iso. I went ahead and burned the VIDEO_TS content to -RW, and it seems like a normally working DVD, other than the menu references to having used DVDwizard to create it. Can that stuff be suppressed, or at least shrunk in size? The 5 character whitespace was collapsed to one space. Can that be prevented when I re-burn to -R? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg. This is the run script I used: dvdwizard -o /isos/work/Buffywiz \ -y \ -N NTSC \ -T "Buffy" \ -b Buffy_titlescreen.png \ -c 00:00:00.000,00:01:14.440,00:05:01.280,00:10:03.000,00:15:55.840,00:20:36.680,00:24:40.600,00:29:58.240,00:35:43.320,00:42:32.960,00:48:04.840,00:52:53.800,00:59:44.280,01:02:44.560,01:07:26.720,01:10:15.520,01:14:27.440,01:18:59.320,01:21:19.160,01:25:22.480 \ Buffy.mpg I searched for 'wrong in "mk_vmgm"!' in the mailinglist archive, http://dvdwizard.wershofen.net/ and with Google, without finding an answer. So for "DVDWizard is >free software" the program uses the auto-generated string "DVDwizard", >followed by TXT_VMGM_ABOUT2_EN, while in Hungarian this would be "A >DVDwizard szabad szoftver" so it would need be contructed from three >parts: "A " + the auto-generated string "DVDwizard" + >TXT_VMGM_ABOUT2_HU. This shouldn't be a problem with dvdwizard 0.7 any more, because I'm using printf instead of echo to output the about text. If TXT_VMGM_ABOUTTXT_<language> has been defined printf "${txt_ABOUTTXT}" "${verStr}" "${HOMEADDR}" "${DW_NAME}" "${GPLVERS}"> "$aboutT would be used to generate the about text, with verStr = "${DW_NAME}-${DW_VERSION}"; # set up at mk_vmgm HOMEADDR = "http://sf.net/projects/dvdwizard"; # set up at dvdwizard_common DW_NAME = "DVDwizard"; # set up at dvdwizard_common DE_VERSION = "0.7.0"; # set up at dvdwizard_common (via Makefile) GPLVERS = "GPL-3"; # set up at dvdwizard_common So you only need to build a string, where those replacements of %s may be used in this order. In english this would be: TXT_VMGM_ABOUTTXT_EN="This DVD was produced with %s.\n\n%s\n\n%s is free software,\nreleased under the %s." and result in: This DVD was produced with DVDwizard 0.7.0. http://sf.net/projects/dvdwizard DVDwizard is free software released under the GPL-3. Remember that dvdwizard will output the text with horizontal centering. The old TXT_VMGM_ABOUT1_... and TXT_VMGM_ABOUT2_... would be used, if TXT_VMGM_ABOUTTXT_... has not been defined. >Most of the time the order of the parts of the sentence need to be >inverted, but as font style also changes with the sub-sentence in >question (e.g. TXT_OVERLAY_VTSM_1_EN + TXT_OVERLAY_VTSM_2_EN make >together "select chapter", with "select" being displayed with a smaller >sized font). So it is not consistent with the style if I simply invert >TXT_OVERLAY_VTSM_1_HU and TXT_OVERLAY_VTSM_2_HU. Although this ("Fejezet >kiválasztása") makes the sentence correct in Hungarian, >"Fejezet" (="Chapter") will have a smaller font face than >"Kiválasztása" (="Selection"), this is the opposite in English. This is another problem. Because in this case not only place holder like %s are needed, but markup up place holders would also be needed. So printf would not be a solution. Configurable build of the vertical text would be needed. But this isn't a real problem, because create_overlay is a function at dvdwizard_common and dvdwizard_common will be loaded before dvdwizard.conf. So the function may be overloaded by a function with same name at dvdwizward.conf. Another solution would be to have a switch to decide, wether the result should be TXT_OVERLAY_..._1_... <--- small TXT_OVERLAY_..._2_... <--- large or TXT_OVERLAY_..._2_... <--- large TXT_OVERLAY_..._1_... <--- small This may be done. BTW: With dvdwizard 0.7.0 not only the generated DVD may be localized but the program itself too. I've used common i18n-features of bash to do so. So you need an po-editor to generate new program localizations. Markus |

I haven't forgotten your wishes. Unfortunately I had not much time in the last months to plan an realize your wishes. On the other side Markus Kohm already works on a new branch (0.7) which will reorganize the source code of dvdwizard because of many new ideas. So I think it is better to add new ideas to this development version. I have CC'ed Markus Kohm to let him know your wishes for dvdwizard. Ciao, Joo |

When the first part of my dvdwizard command was this: dvdwizard -y -N PAL -T 'Lauren and Brian Wedding Dance Class' \ I got these error messages: Creating button pictograms...done Now preparing menu for titleset 1... convert: invalid geometry `+-13+63' @ geometry.c/ParseRegionGeometry/1322. Hey, something went wrong in ""! Check for error messages in the log. The last command returned a Non-Zero Return-Code (1) So I guess it's better to stop here and let you analyze the situation Hope you'll find the error. ;-) Here are the last 10 lines of the log (/home/sipusic/dvdwizard.log) It turns out that my title was too long but that was not at all clear from the error messages. After several hours of looking at and experimenting, I determined that the problem occurred in the print_title subroutine of mk_vmgm. OffsetDimW was a negative number. The following statement, "convert", fails on a negative OffsetDimW. So my suggestion would be to add a check for a non-positive OffsetDimW just before the convert, and if a non-positive is found, write a message to dvdwizard.log saying that the title is probably too long. I use dvdwizard a lot. Thank you Wolfgang and Joo. Tom Sipusic |
