Currently, I am running a semi-production 1.1.1, which will be upgraded
to 1.2 when it is officially released.
Until then, I have another project for which I would like to use 1.2.
So, I would like to install 1.2 Beta on a different machine. My
question is, since the 1.1.1 is the production version, and it has
handles, etc., what will be involved with merging the 1.2 Beta records
into the (eventually) upgraded 1.1.1 (which would then be 1.2)?
The main problem I see is the handle issue, which may actually be a
non-issue. I will not create an official handle server on the 1.2 Beta
installation, since I have a real one running on the 1.1.1 install. So,
each item in the 1.2 Beta system will have "fake" handles that will need
to be changed to "official" handles at merge.
The scenario I see is this: I would export all the 1.2 Beta items and
then import them into the newly upgraded 1.2 (formerly 1.1.1) system,
but the handles would then need to change in line with the existing
records from the 1.1.1 install. Is there a mechanism for this, or will
they retain the "fake" handles? Any other "gotchas" that people
envision with this strategy?
I suppose if this a problem I could write a script that would remove the
handles from the import files, which would (I think) force the system to
assign proper handles.
Apologies if this is answered somewhere else, and thanks!
