I had a look at two New Zealand implementations of DSpace 1.6.
Both have an option for Usage Statistics available from the front page.
Is this the @mire Content and Usage Analysis Module, or out of the box
DSpace or a local customisation?

That's a local customisation, written before DSpace 1.6 was released.
We've been having some problems with this module and are about to start
a re-write that integrates it better with the DSpace 1.6 statistics.
The customisations were done by Kim Shepherd -- if you've got any
specific questions, you may wish to ask him.
